DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) seeks a senior-level dynamic and proactive communications director for a hard-hitting DC-based ethics watchdog with a national profile.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and implementation on communications and outreach strategies for all CREW projects, campaigns, and legal actions.
  • Facilitate CREW’s response to media inquiries.
  • Leverage/build relationships with journalists to create new media opportunities.
  • Pitch all CREW actions and story ideas.
  • Draft and edit news releases, newsletters, blog posts, tweets and other written products.
  • Monitor news relevant to CREW’s mission and develop initiatives for new CREW actions.
  • Create concepts and framework for CREW projects with new media and IT staff.
  • Oversee daily updates and other critical content on all websites.
  • Work with IT staff designing new web pages.

Qualifications - candidates applying for this position should have the following:

  • Minimum 10 years of communications experience in non-profit, executive branch, Capitol Hill, or comparable arena with demonstrated interest in national politics.
  • Experience with development, execution, and coordination of time-sensitive media strategies.
  • Direct supervisory experience required.

  • Must be extremely outgoing.

DIRECTOR OF NEW MEDIA

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting government ethics and accountability, is seeking a Director of New Media.

The Job: The ideal candidate has extensive online and social media experience, and has been involved in blogging, social-networking, online campaigns, etc. The ideal candidate also must take initiative, meet deadlines and think strategically about how to use online and social media to advance CREW’s organizational goals. This position reports to the Director of Communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a comprehensive new media strategy (using online, social media and other tools) to strengthen CREW’s profile and image, increase traffic to CREW’s main and auxiliary websites, build relationships with bloggers, build the number of email supporters and raise donations to help fund CREW’s ongoing work.
  • Write email alerts, tweets, updates for CREW’s Facebook page, blog posts and other content to keep supporters and followers informed of CREW’s ongoing work.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, strategies and applications, and advise CREW’s senior staff on appropriate ways for CREW to apply this knowledge.
  • Develop performance measures to assess the scope, reach and impact of CREW’s online and social media presence, and provide regular reports about this to appropriate staff.

Qualifications - candidates applying for this position should have the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in communications with competency using a variety of online/web tools and technologies. Knowledge of effective political/advocacy messaging for the web is helpful.
  • A demonstrated ability to use new media tools to communicate with and motivate target groups to take action.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor messages to specific audiences.
  • Web development and design skills that include a practiced ease and comfort with HTML, XML, and CSS.
  • Content management experience and familiarity with SEO tactics.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills — the ability to work either independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience developing work plans, managing projects and meeting deadlines.

DIRECTOR OF POLICY

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting government ethics and accountability, is seeking a Research Associate.

The Job: The ideal candidate will have substantive experience with government information statutes, such as the Freedom of Information Act, as well as ethics rules and lobbying statutes. This position reports to the executive director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policy for CREW on issues of government transparency and accountability.
  • Work in consultation with Congress, the administration and other public interest groups to develop CREW’s position on pending and proposed legislation, focusing particularly on government ethics, campaign finance, lobbying, government information and transparency initiatives.
  • Coordinate with CREW’s legal and research staff and assist in drafting policy position papers.

Qualifications – candidates applying for this position should have the following:

  • Strong writing, analytical, communication and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment essential.
  • J.D. strongly preferred.

The Job: The ideal candidate will have two years of research experience, strong writing and organizational skills and an interest in politics. This position is based in Washington, D.C. and provides competitive salary and excellent benefits. This position reports to the Director of Research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth investigations and extract relevant information.
  • Review and analyze government documents, news reports, databases and other resources.
  • Synthesize information into concise written reports for the media and the public.
  • Generate innovative project ideas and investigative report proposals.
  • Create databases and online resources for educational purposes.

UNDERGRADUATE INTERNS
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is a nonprofit, legal watchdog group which targets government officials who sacrifice the common good to special interests. We help Americans use litigation to shine a light on those who betray the public trust.

CREW seeks undergraduate students to serve as unpaid interns. Undergraduate interns will assist with research and operations, including compiling complaints, performing research for reports and maintaining website content, and communications, including working with press, monitoring press coverage, and building press lists. The ideal candidate will be hard-working, enthusiastic, resourceful, detail-oriented, and interested in legal or ethics issues.
